Ukraine experiences week-long heat wave
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-03 10:53

Ukraine has been sweating out a heat wave for the past week, with temperatures soaring above 32 degrees Celsius, and there is no respite in sight, according to a government meteorologist.

"The heat wave is going to stick around for the next week, with temperatures going up to 37-39 degrees, sometimes 40-42 degrees in southern and central regions," Anatoly Prokopenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian hydro meteorological center, told a press conference Thursday.

The temperatures would remain above 30 degrees at least for the next two weeks, Prokopenko said.

In response to the heat wave, many local governments have taken preventive measures against fire in forests and in factories.

The country's Emergencies Ministry has also imposed a ban on unorganized forest tours and asked individuals to take care.
