Georgia holds repeat elections for legislative polls

Georgia on Sunday held repeat parliamentary elections in 11 presincts representing three constituencies.

Three hours before the closure of the polling stations at 17:00 local Georgian time, the Georgian Central Election Commission reported a turnout rate of 27.4 percent in these presincts.

Repeat elections had to be organized due to disputes as regards results of these polling stations.

The 2012 Georgian parliamentary elections were held on Oct. 1, with a turnout of 60.8 percent.

Opposition election coalition Georgian Dream has so far garnered 84 of the 150 seats while the hitherto ruling United National Movement party had 66 seats. The unicameral Georgian parliament has 150 seats in all.

According to its pronounced scheduled, the Central Election Commission will announce the official final election results on Oct. 20.
