Two Frenchmen were killed Saturday night when they tried to put out a fire that broke out in a house in southern France, local media reported on Sunday.

A 35-year-old firefighter and a volunteer of about 16 years old from the region of Digne-les-Bains, whose names were not disclosed, were found dead, the news channel BFMTV said.

The house's occupant was unharmed, it added.

Interior Minister Manuel Valls sent his "sincere condolences to the families of the victims" and expressed his support for the fire department of Alpes de Haute-Provence.
