Thousands of French protestors strike against austerity
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-15 10:48

As part of the massive anti-austerity demonstration across Europe, thousands of French people took the streets on Wednesday to express their frustation over the austerity

French trade unions said 130 protests were organized across the country where up to 3,000 and 5,000 protestors were gathered respectively in the southern town of Marseille and in Nantes, west of France.

In Paris, several thousands of demonstrators said "No for austerity, Yes for social Europe," stressing their refusal of Greek-style cuts in wages or welfare.

"We all all facing a similar and coherent European approach made of austerity and precariousness for workers and we have to act together," said Bernard Thibault.head of CGT main union.

"We want a European space where social progress is the agenda of the summits of heads of state. Europe is a lowest social when it should be more," he told news channel BFMTV.

Last September, French government announced tax-rising "fighting budget" for 2013 aimed at collecting additional 37 billion euros (47.09 billion U.S. dollars), the toughest adjustment in three decades, to trim budget gap to 3 percent of national wealth from an expected 4.5 percent this year.

However, analysts said the Socialists' financial roadmap is too optimistic as taming economic growth and high record joblessness could take the wind out of their sails, forcing them to make further savings amid growing public discontent. (1 euro = 1.272 U.S.dollar)
