Border and anti-drug services of Russia and Kazakhstan seized 125 kg of marijuana, hashish, heroin and other illegal substances during a joint operation, Russian Federal anti-drug service (FSKN) said Friday.
Code namde Soyuz (union), the operation was aimed at destroying illegal trafficking of drugs, arms and ammunition.
The operation was carried out in the border regions of Altai, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Saratov, Orenburg, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Omsk, Tyumen and Novosibirsk, according to the FSKN.
Russian taxation, migration, drug control services and police also took part in the operation.
"Three hundred and fourteen people were detained, 125 kg of illegal drugs seized," FSKN said in a statement on its website.
In September, FSKN's head Victor Ivanov said Russia was one of the final destinations for Afghan drugs. In Russia over 100,000 drug addicts die every year and up to 8.5 million people use narcotic substances regularly, according to FSKN. |
