Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday approved in the final reading a bill that would extend a ban on the sale of country's farmland until Jan.1, 2016.
With 348 members of the parliament present in the 450-member strong body, 269 lawmakers voted in favor of the law, which is a part of the current land reform.
Ukraine's land reform, aimed at improving country's farm sector and boosting agricultural output, envisages lifting a moratorium on the farmland sale, which has been in place in the East European country since 1992.
After land privatization in 1996, Ukrainian land plot owners, who number 7,000, work with farmers under lease agreements.
Ukraine now has around 42 million hectares of agricultural land. |
