A Greek counter-terrorism squad detained a person suspected to be linked to the local guerrilla group "Conspiracy of the Nuclei of Fire" which has claimed responsibility for several attacks in recent years, Greek media reported on Wednesday.

Police have not made official announcements yet, but according to media reports, a 29-year old man was apprehended in the countryside upon a warrant issued based on the discovery of his fingerprints in one of the hideouts used by the group raided a few months ago.

Police sources suspected the man to be a key member of the militant group which is regarded responsible for a series of attacks, including a bomb explosion at a courthouse in central Athens in December 2010 which caused extensive damages and no injuries.

The group is also believed to be involved with a parcel bomb thriller targeting European leaders and foreign embassies in November 2011.
