Last Updated(Beijing Time):2013-01-11 11:01

Georgian rescuers are reportedly trying to reach three Russian tourists who are on a climbing expedition on Mount Kazbegi but were trapped by avalanche, local media reported on Thursday.

The Rustavi2 television quoted a regional governor as saying that poor visibility had hampered the rescue efforts.

One under-age Russian tourist survived the avalanche which trapped three other Russian tourists. The under-age Russian tourist is now staying at a local clinic and is in good condition.

The Russian tourists from Moscow have been in the Kazbegi mountain area since Jan. 2.

The third highest mountain in Georgia, Mount Kazbegi or Mount Kazbek is a dormant strato-volcano. It is 5,033 meters above sea level.

Mount Kazbegi has been a tourist attraction as it is the most prominent geographic feature of the Caucasian area.
