Suspected ETA members arrested in France
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2013-01-12 18:05

Two suspected members of Basque separatist group ETA were detained by police in the French town of Nevers around 200 kilometers from Paris, Spanish security forces confirmed Saturday.

One of those detained is Andoni Lariz Bustinduy ,a 39-year-old who is thought to have formed part of the 'Kresada' cell formed in 2005 and carried out a bomb attack in the central Spanish town of Avila.

The identity of the other person who has been arrested has still not to be confirmed, but both detainees were armed with 'Bauer' pistols, a kind of weapon often associated with members of the group.

The suspected terrorists who were travelling in a stolen car attracted the attention of the French police and stop it to identity the occupants at around 17.30 hours local time on Friday.

ETA announced a permanent ceasefire shortly before the Spanish general election in November 2011, although for the moment the group has made no firm moves to dissolve or to hand over its weapons.

Meanwhile Spanish and French security forces have shown no sign of changing their policy towards ETA, shown by the fact that there have been 81 arrests of people associated with the group during the past two years, 55 of these arrests took place during 2012, while these is the first detention of 2013.
