French Interior Minister Manuel Valls on Thursday ordered the deportation of a Moroccan man on charges of having links with terrorist cells in France and promoting violent jihad.
Ali Benhammou was deported to Morocco as "the facts alleged against him are particularly serious" and "are likely to affect the fundamental interests of the French state," the minister said in a statement.
According to Valls, Benhammou took part in terrorist activities of the Islamist movement of Forsane Alizza on the French territory and showed his willingness to participate in armed fighting in Afghanistan.
Calm was broken in France in March 2012 after an al-Qaida-inspired young gunman killed three French paratroops from ethnic minorities and four Jewish children in southern France.
Since the serial shootings, France launched a nationwide anti-terrorist raid to dismantle radical Islamist groups and has arrested dozens of presumed terrorists.
On Jan. 13, France raised anti-terror alert to higher level for fears of reprisals after Paris' military intervention in Mali to help Malian authorities stop Islamist rebels' offensive.
