The U.N. Secretariat unacceptably takes an unconstructive and inconsistent approach on investigating the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
In response to a request of the Syrian government to investigate the possible use of toxic substances near Aleppo on March 19, the U.N. Secretariat demanded "unlimited access for experts to all facilities in Syria and to all persons whom experts believe it necessary to interrogate," the ministry said in a statement.h "Such approach reminds of the policy towards using weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The policy was based on deliberately false data and lead to common consequences," the ministry said.
The ministry said the U.N. Secretariat, under the pressure of certain states, took "an unconstructive position and in essence wrecks the investigation of concrete information."
Moscow considers such actions "unacceptable and inadmissible" in terms of discussing crises and other disputes, the ministry said.
