Ukraine's capital Kiev had its warmest May temperature record broken with a high of 28.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
"As of May 12, Kiev had broken the record high temperature for the date with an observation of 28.9 degrees Celsius. This breaks the previous record, which was set away back in 1881", the country 's Central Geophysical Observatory (CGO) said in a statement on Monday.
According to the CGO, the temperature for the day was also 0.1 degree Celsius higher than that recorded in 2003.
High temperature over the weekend brought crowds of Kiev residents to beaches near the Dnieper River, with a water temperature of 20 degrees Celsius reported.
The National Meteorology Administration said the temperature would start to decline Monday, as the passage of the cold front is likely to bring a round of rain to the region.
Forecasters say next weekend the record-braking hot temperatures across Ukraine are likely to touch 29-34 degrees Celsius.
