Hamas condemns Israeli-Palestinian peace meeting
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-02 18:08

Hamas rulers of Gaza condemned on Monday the Palestinian National Authority's (PNA) approval to hold a meeting with Israeli officials to discuss resuming stalled peace talks.

"We urge the PNA to cancel this meeting," Hamas spokesman in Gaza Sami Abu Zuhri told Xinhua.

He also called on Palestinians not to bet on the international Quartet, accusing it of being controlled by the United States and serving Israel's interests.

Palestinian and Israeli peace negotiators will meet on Tuesday in Jordan's capital Amman to discuss the possibility of resuming direct talks.

The meeting will be held under the auspices of Jordan and the international Quartet for peace in the Middle East which comprises the United States, the European Union, Russia and United Nations.

Direct peace negotiations between Israel and the PNA stopped last October, four weeks after they started. The Quartet wanted Palestinians and Israelis to resume peace negotiations before the deadline of Jan. 26.
