Bahrain's National Commission head withdraws resignation
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-04 09:41

The head Bahrain's National Commission tasked with following up the recommendations of the Bahraini Independent Commission of Inquiry (BICI), on Monday withdrew his resignation upon the intervention of the Bahraini king.

"On the request of His Majesty King Hamad, I have decided to continue my duties as chairman of the National Commission," Ali Saleh Al Saleh said.

Saleh, also the Shura (Consultative) Council chairman, submitted his resignation on Dec. 30 from the post of the National Commission chairman, saying he made the move due to criticism and accusations targeting his "integrity and judgment."

Saleh was appointed chairman of the National Commission by a royal decree in November. Unnamed sources told Xinhua that Saleh was criticized by some individuals from the political societies for being biased after he reinstated four men in the Shura Council, who had been sacked during the unrest.

Saleh said the recommendations in BICI's report were up to the highest international standards and in line with the process of reforms to satisfy the needs and welfare of all citizens.

Bahrain's main opposition society Al Wefaq National Islamic Society and four other groups had announced in November that they would not take part in the National Commission, claiming they were not invited to the high level discussions that would shape the kingdom's future.
