The value of damage caused by terrorist attacks against the agricultural sector in Syria has been estimated at 450 million Syrian pounds (about 7.8 million U.S. dollars), a Syrian newspaper said Saturday.

Al-Thawra newspaper quoted agricultural ministry official Omar Hajo as saying that 103 vehicles and 25 establishments have been destroyed by terrorist groups during the past 10 months, six people working in the agricultural field have been killed and five others were kidnapped.

Engineer Ramadan al-Mohammad at the ministry told the paper that the damage was estimated at 450 million Syrian pounds.

Terrorist acts have also targeted other sectors of the Syrian economy.

Syrian Oil Minister Sufian Allaw said Thursday that terrorist acts carried out by armed groups against oil pipelines and other oil institutions, in addition to sanctions imposed by the European Union on Syrian oil industry, have caused a damage of about 2.1 billion Syrian pounds (about 36.5 million U.S. dollars).

In addition, 21 people in the oil sector were killed, 24 others were wounded, and five others were kidnapped during the past 10 months.

On Wednesday, Minister of Electricity Imad Khamis said at a press conference that the recent attacks carried out by armed terrorist groups have inflicted a big damage on the distribution network and maintenance workshops.

The minister said the direct material damage inflicted upon the network was valued at nearly 713 million Syrian pounds (about 12.4 million dollars), while the value of indirect economic damage reached around 23 billion Syrian pounds (about 400 million dollars) .

He also said that some power generating stations were undermined or operating with partial capacity due to terrorist attacks at gas pipelines and railways that ferry fuel to these stations.

At least five pipelines have been targeted since the eruption of unrest in Syria in mid March, 2011. The Syrian government held what it called "saboteurs" responsible for the attacks.
