IAEA confirms to sent team to Iran
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-24 09:17

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Monday that a high-ranking team from the agency will visit Iran from January 29 to 31, to discuss issues related to the country's disputed nuclear program.

The overall objective of the visit, headed by Deputy Director General Herman Nackaerts of the UN nuclear watchdog, is to "resolve all outstanding substantive issues," the IAEA said in a statement.

"The agency team is going to Iran in a constructive spirit, and we trust that Iran will work with us in that same spirit," Yukiya Amano, Director General of the IAEA, said in the statement.

The statement came following a statement earlier this month from Iran's envoy to IAEA Ali-Asghar Soltanieh, that the IAEA team will visit Iran at the end of January.

"This visit is an indication of transparency in the nuclear activities of the country and Iran's cooperation with IAEA," Soltanieh told the press.

Last November, the board of the IAEA adopted a resolution on Iran's nuclear program suspected of having military purposes, calling for intensified dialogue to find solutions to unresolved issues.

The latest IAEA report alleging Iran has engaged in nuclear bomb-related activities was categorically rejected by Tehran, which called the report "imbalanced, non- professional and politically-motivated."
