Jordan's Lower House on Wednesday condemned the arrest of Palestinian parliament speaker Aziz Dweik by Israeli forces, state-run Petra news agency reported.
"The arrest of Dweik is in violation of the international laws and is a stark violation of the international legitimacy as Dweik is a representative of the Palestinians and an elected member of the Palestinian legislative council," the 120-member lower house said in a statement.
Calling for the release of Dweik, the Lower House said Israel seeks to harm the unity of the Palestinians and does not want the realization of reconciliation between the Palestinians.
The Lower House said it is closely following up on the arrest of Dweik and supports the Palestinians in the face of the Israeli occupation.
He was arrested last week at an Israeli military checkpoint as he was travelling to Hebron in the southern West Bank. |
