In January, the EU imposed further sanctions against Iran's oil exports as well as its central bank in a bid to ramp up pressure over Iran's disputed nuclear program.

Major EU importers of Iran's oil, such as Greece, Italy and Spain, have to find alternative oil suppliers before July 1, when the embargo comes into force.

On Friday, Khamenei referred to the military advancements and nuclear enrichment progress of the country and said that such achievements were made as the Islamic republic came under diverse sanction pressures from Western countries.

Also, Khamenei warned against any war threats on the country saying that the United States will suffer from any war threat or potential war against the Islamic Republic.

"Threats of war (against Iran) is for the loss of the United States and the war itself is ten times for the loss of the United States," he said.

Referring to the military threats and sanction threats by certain Western countries over Iran's controversial nuclear program, Khamenei said that the United States and other Western countries should know that Iran also has its own "threats to make, which will be made in its due time."

The United States and Israel has not ruled out military action against the country's nuclear facilities as Iran dismisses West's call to halt its uranium enrichment.

Khamenei said that the U.S. threats of military action against Iran show its desperate attempts to put pressures on Iran and lacks the logic in face of Iran's reasonable discourse.

He said that the United States has no logic but coercion and no option but bloodshed to achieve its objectives.

The Iranian leader said that his country will not step back in face of Western sanction threats. These sanctions will be fired back by the Islamic Republic, he added.

As for the country's upcoming parliamentary elections, he called on the Iranians to participate actively in the voting polls.

The enemies are trying to discourage people from taking part in the elections, he said, adding that people should be vigilant about the enemies' plots and security forces should be vigilant against any move by the enemies which may cause insecurity during the election days.

Iran's upcoming parliamentary polls are slated for March 12, where some 5000 candidates will contest the 290-seat legislature.

Ex-president of Iran Mohammad Khatami said in December of last year that reformists will not announce any candidates for the elections because "the conditions for the reformists to participate were not met."

Khatami said earlier that reformists would only participate in the polls if all the reformist political prisoners were freed, the political atmosphere was open and the elections could be held with utmost transparency.

Iran's Guardian Council said recently that individuals who were linked to the protests following the 2009 presidential elections will not be eligible to campaign for the polls.

Protests gripped Tehran and other Iranian cities after the presidential elections, which were suspected to be rigged in favor of incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
