Some Western countries have mounted strong verbal attacks against Russia and China for their double veto of the Syria draft in the UN Security Council.

They even called the veto a "travesty" and claimed it would encourage "further bloodshed in Syria."

However harsh and jaw-dropping accusations they may put on, it is themselves who should be blamed for forcing a vote on a highly controversial draft.

One of the key articles of the draft demands Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to handover power to a deputy, which smacks of the long-desired "regime change" in the Arab country by some Western powers.

It's secret to none that the Assad-led Syrian government is viewed as a thorn in the flesh by the West, given Syria's close ties with Iran and Lebanon's armed group Hezbollah.

If the West could succeed in its endeavor of a "regime change" in Syria, it could further isolate Iran and Hezbollah, which is arguably the strongest Western motive on the Syria issue.

In the unbalanced draft resolution, the West only stressed the immediate step-down of Assad but refused to add articles to bind actions of the opposition or set conditions for the two sides to engage in talks.

China believes that solving disputes or conflict via dialogue is always a better choice and has been working to encourage peaceful talks in Syria.

In stark contrast, some Western countries claimed the time for talks in Syria had been over and with their efforts failed in the UN Security Council, they move to seek legitimacy for their planned "Syria solution" outside the UN.

The 11-month unrest has already cost Syria dearly, but the ramification could be even larger for both Syria and the rest of the world if hasty actions are taken by outsiders before the Syrian government and the opposition have a chance to work out an inclusive plan addressing calls of all Syrian people.
