Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said Friday Iran's Navy added two domestically- manufactured light Ghadir-class submarines to its naval fleet, local satellite Press TV reported.
The submarines, completely designed and produced by Iranian experts, would enhance the Islamic Republic's naval capabilities, Sayyari was quoted as saying.
According to Press TV, in November, 2011, Iran's Navy Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Khadem-Bigham announced that three Ghadir-class submarines joined the country's naval fleet.
Khadem-Bigham said that the submarines were capable of launching torpedoes and operating in shallow waters.
The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has shallow depth performance and can conduct prolonged coastal missions. |
