PNA threatens to reconsider agreements with Israel
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-13 23:33

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Monday threatened to reconsider its agreements with Israel if the latter did not respond to its letters on the peace process, a Palestinian official said Monday.

Palestinian Minister of Civil Affairs Hussein Al-Sheikh said he would personally hand Israel an official letter with the Palestinian demands related to the implementation of the peace process.

A warning to reconsider all the mutual agreements with Israel will be included in the letter, the PNA official told Voice of Palestine Radio.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged Arab leaders Sunday to send to Israel the Palestinian letters on the peace process and the Palestinian vision to resume peace talks with Israel, which stopped in 2010 due to a dispute on the Jewish settlement building in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.

Abbas told an Arab League (AL) ministerial meeting that the Palestinian-Israeli peace should include the Israeli recognition of a two-state solution according to the 1967 lines, halting settlement activities and releasing Palestinian prisoners, especially the old detainees.

The AL ministerial council noted in a resolution on Sunday the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty, asserting its rejection of all forms of settlement and calling for reaching a fair solution for the Palestinian refugees.

Palestinian officials argue that they do not have sovereignty in many areas in the West Bank, including the crossing points, and that the Israeli army raid the Palestinian-controlled areas on a daily basis.

The PNA refuses to limit its tasks to the security aspect while Israel "confiscates" all other political tasks and authorities, Al- Sheikh said, adding that "We cannot live this way forever."

Earlier on Monday, sources said that the Palestinian leadership was considering to upgrade its United Nations status to a nonmember observer state if Israel responded negatively to the letters.
