Iranian foreign minister arrives in Pakistan

Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Akbar Salehi arrived in Islamabad on Thursday ahead of the visit by the Iranian President who is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on Thursday evening, officials said.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will represent Iran in the trilateral summit that also includes Pakistan and Afghanistan. The first session of the summit will be held on Thursday evening and the concluding session will be held on Friday, official sources said.

The summit will issue a joint communique at the conclusion of deliberations. The summit will discuss economic cooperation among the three countries and their roles for peace and stability in the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister will meet Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar later Thursday and will discuss agenda for bilateral meetings between President Ahmadinejad and Pakistani leaders, diplomatic sources said.

Salehi will also meet with Chairman of the Pakistan Parliamentary Committee on National Security, which has recently presented recommendations for future relationship with the United States and NATO.
