Turkish PM urges opening humanitarian corridor to Syria
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-06 22:40

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday that a humanitarian corridor to Syria should be opened in order to rescue those who are suffering to the rampant violence.

Erdogan made the remarks when addressing some members of his ruling Justice and Development Party, also known as AKP, at the parliament.

"Arab League's plan should be implemented without losing more time or lives," the prime minister said.

He went on to say that the international community should put pressure on the Syrian government to distribute humanitarian aid to the Syrian people, particularly those living in unrest-torn Homs.

He said the Syrian government had increased violence against its own people and defined the recent attacks as inhumane.

"Tens of innocent people, including children and women, lost their lives in those attacks staged by army and militia forces, snipers and heavy weapons in several cities in Syria," Erdogan said.

Erdogan said Turkey would go on with its diplomatic initiatives to stop the "massacre" in Syria, pledging to "draw the world's attention to Syria by hosting a conference in Istanbul this month. "
