Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-08 10:02
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered Wednesday the establishment of an institution to control the cyberspace.

In a decree issued Wednesday, Khamenei tasked Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with the duty of establishing the Supreme Council of Cyberspace, the local satellite Press TV reported.

The council will establish a national center for cyberspace to acquire up-to-date and thorough knowledge about the activities in cyberspace on a domestic and international scale and to decide on how the country must address arising issues, said the report.

The supreme council of cyberspace, headed by Ahmadinejad, comprises high-ranking Iranian officials such as the Majlis ( parliament) speaker, judiciary chief, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) TV, minister of communication and information technology, minister of culture and Islamic guidance, minister of Intelligence, chief of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and police chief.

Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi announced in October 2010 that Iran had detected and thwarted a virus aimed at infecting the country's nuclear plant system.
