Gunmen shot dead a security member and four of his family members in a town north of Baghdad, an interior ministry source told Xinhua on Sunday.

The incident took place after midnight when gunmen broke into the house of a bodyguard of the mayor of Tarmiyah, some 30 km north of Baghdad, and shot him dead along with his wife, sister and two daughters, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Afterwards, the gunmen planted bombs in the house and blew them up before they fled the scene, the source said.

In a separate incident, three civilians were wounded in the morning when a roadside bomb went off near a popular coffee shop in al-Gatoun area in western Diyala's provincial capital city of Baquba, some 65 km northeast of Baghdad, a provincial police source anonymously told Xinhua.

Insurgents continue daily attacks including suicide bombings across Iraq since the U.S. troops pulled out of the country late last year.
