Armed group blast diesel pipeline in central Syria
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-13 09:51

An armed terrorist group blasted earlier Monday a diesel pipeline in central Syria, setting the line on fire, state-run SANA news agency reported.

The 20-inch diameter pipe carries diesel between the central provinces of Homs and Hama, SANA said, adding pumping was halted for authorities to extinguish the fire and fix the damaged parts.

Monday's blast is the latest in a string of attacks carried out by armed groups against the energy infrastructure in Syria.

A week ago, armed groups targeted an oil pipeline with explosive device in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, causing minor damages.

At least eight pipelines have been targeted since the eruption of unrest in Syria in mid March, 2011. Syria held what it called " saboteurs" responsible for the attacks.
