The Israeli army on Wednesday arrested a senior member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement in the West Bank, Palestinian sources said.
Israeli troops entered the northern West Bank city of Jenin and arrested a senior Islamic Jihad member Izz el-Deen Jafar, 40, from his house in the south of the city after a brief interrogation, the sources said.
Jafar was a political figure but not active in the movement's armed wing. He was freed last year after spending three years in Israeli detention.
The Israeli army operates in Palestinian-controlled areas of the West Bank on a daily basis, conducting raids and arrests.
The military strength of the Islamic Jihad is found in the Gaza Strip, where the Islamic Hamas movement holds sway. |
