Gunfire exchanged between Sunni and Alawite neighborhood in northern Lebanon |

A heavy gunfire was exchanged late Saturday night between the Sunni "Harat Al Barranieh" and the Alawite "Jabal Mohsen" neighborhood in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli.
The Lebanese army, deployed in the area since Feb. 10, intervened immediately and restored calm to the area that had witnessed the displacement of some families from their homes.
According to information obtained by Xinhua, a civilian car was passing through Syria Street that separates the areas of Jabal Mohsen and El Tebbaneh.
A checkpoint of Lebanese Army was fired at, which prompted a response from soldiers.
At the same time, a shootout between the area of Jabal Mohsen and the Harat Al Barranieh area adjacent to the Bab El Tebbaneh occurred.
No casualties were reported and the Lebanese Army conducted extensive patrols following the shootout. |
