Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Iran on Wednesday to discuss Iran's nuclear program and the situation in Syria, the Foreign Ministry said Monday.

During his visit, Lavrov will hold talks with Iranian officials on the preparation for the upcoming Moscow round of talks between Iran and the six major world powers of Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, according to the ministry's press service.

In the latest Baghdad talks on May 23-24, the six powers tabled a package of incentives to Iran in a bid to settle the issue of 20-percent enrichment of uranium, while Iran announced its readiness for further discussion of the issue.

An Iranian lawmaker said Sunday that the Islamic republic will never give in to Western pressure over its nuclear program, and predicted the Moscow talks will produce "no positive results" since the Western countries in the group are threatening Iran.

The Russian foreign minister will also discuss the situation in the Middle East and North Africa, specially the "transformation processes in the Arab world" and the situation in Syria, local media reported.

Lavrov said last week that Russia intended to include Iran in a Moscow-initiated Syria conference since the country could have influence on the Syrian government. Calling Iran as part of the problem and not part of the solution was "thoughtless," he said.

Russia, he said, sees no alternative to the peace plan brokered by the UN-Arab League joint special envoy Kofi Annan and suggests making it more "detailed" and "specified."
