Fresh Israeli raid kills Palestinian militant in Gaza
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-20 17:46

A Palestinian militant was killed Wednesday in a fresh Israeli airstrike in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, witnesses and medical sources said.

A missile was fired from an Israeli airplane and hit a motorbike, killing the fighter and moderately wounding a passerby, the medical sources said.

Israel said the target is a member of a global Jihadi group that has claimed responsibility for killing an Israeli worker in an attack on Israel's borders with Egypt on Monday.

Seven Palestinians have been killed since Monday by Israeli fire. Militants in Gaza said they started firing rockets to retaliate upon the Israeli military strikes.

On Tuesday, a Palestinian rocket fell short of the borders and killed a toddler in Gaza City.

Earlier Wednesday, a 17-year-old Palestinian boy was moderately wounded when Israeli artillery shells landed in the east of Deir Al-Balah town in central Gaza Strip, as militant groups in the coastal enclave continued firing rockets into Israel for the third day.

At dawn, the Israeli airplanes carried out several raids, targeting sites belonging to the Islamic Hamas movement, which governs Gaza.

For the first time in more than a year, the armed wing of Hamas claimed Tuesday responsibility for firing dozens of Grad and home- made rockets into Israel.
