Calmness was restored in the Gaza Strip on Sunday after a week-long heavy fighting between Israel and Palestinian militant groups, in light of an Egypt-brokered understanding between the two sides.

Gaza militants refrained from launching projectiles and homemade rockets from the Gaza Strip at southern Israeli communities, while, Israeli war jets had completely stopped activities. Life in the impoverished enclave is gradually getting back to natural track.

A source close to the Hamas movement in Gaza told Xinhua that the success of the calm understanding is linked to the situation in the field. However, Hamas interior ministry was kept on alert, while Israel said it's ready to retaliate any future rockets attack.

The source said that Hamas keeps in contact with various minor factions and militant groups as well as with the Egyptian sponsor "to reinforce a national accordance on a ceasefire and calm with Israel," adding that the aim is to block anymore deterioration in security and more comprehensive fighting.

On Saturday night, the Islamic movement announced that it will observe and watch a mutual clam with Israel through the Egyptian intelligence security services. Hamas said that it will see to what extent Israel will be committed to a calm within the coming 24 hours.

On Friday and Saturday, five Palestinians, including a four- year-old child were killed and more than 70 wounded in the intensive Israeli aerial attacks on the Gaza Strip. Since Monday, medical sources said that around 15 Palestinians were killed in the newest wave of violence between the two sides.

Israel announced Sunday that it will keep its right of retaliation to any Palestinian attack, while reiterating that the Jewish state is not interested in escalation of violence. Israel Radio has also reported that the Israeli army would keep toppling any Palestinian attempt to fire rockets.

The Radio quoted Israeli military and security sources as saying that Hamas is not responsible for launching long-range rockets from the Gaza Strip at central Israeli cities and towns, " but Hamas doesn't stop the minor militant groups from launching these rockets.

In Israel, life has went back to normal, where schools were reopened in the southern and central areas in Israel.

Since Monday, Israel announced that more than 150 rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip at Israeli towns and communities in southern Israel, and held Hamas responsible for that. However, Hamas only claimed responsibility for launching Grad Russian-made rockets, where 12 Israelis wounded.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has on Saturday night urged Israel and Gaza militant groups to reinforce a clam understanding and turn it into a comprehensive ceasefire "in order not to give Israel any excuse to keep killing our children and destroy our infrastructure."

Observers said that the recent ceasefire would remain fragile and may collapse anytime because it is not written down and also doesn't depend on direct negotiations and mutual commitments, adding that "this ceasefire can be violated anytime for a reason or without a reason."

Talal Oukal, a Gaza-based political analyst told Xinhua that " this is a de facto truce, where Israel is all the time ready to violate in any circumstance that may serve its political interests, " adding that Egypt is not as strong as it used to be "to oblige the parties to respect and be committed to a long term truce."
