Israeli authorities evacuate Jewish settlers near Ramallah
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-27 10:43

The Israeli authorities on Tuesday evacuated a group of Jewish settlers, who seized a Palestinian-owned property of land near the West Bank city of Ramallah, Israeli Radio reported.

The Radio said that 16 families out of 30 Jewish settlers were evacuated to another settlement in the West Bank, according to an agreement reached between the settlers and the government.

Evacuation is to be finalized on Wednesday, said the Radio.

According to the deal, the government will build 300 units in a Jewish settlement adjacent to an Israeli army base for evacuating the 16 settlers' families.

The Israeli Supreme Court had ordered in May to evacuate the 16 settlers' families after they settled on a Palestinian-owned property of land close to the Jewish settlement of Beit Eil.

Before being moved, the settlers did their prayers and no violence between the settlers and the Israeli police was reported, the Radio said, adding that most of the families did not oppose the evacuation.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) had earlier slammed the agreement reached between the settlers and the Israeli government, adding that the settlers were evacuated to another illegal settlement built on the West Bank lands.

The question of settlement activities and expansion of settlements in the West Bank and east Jerusalem has been behind suspending the peace negotiations between the two sides.
