The use of force against Iran over its nuclear program would be a disaster for the entire region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.
"Tunis and Russia stand for an exclusively peaceful political-diplomatic settlement to the situation related to the Iranian nuclear program," Lavrov told a joint press conference after his talks with Tunisian Foreign Minister Rafik Abdesslem here.
"We agree that any military scenario would be disastrous for the whole the region," he said.
Russia has repeatedly warned any military strike against Iran would lead to unpredictable consequences.
Lavrov said last Friday Iran should not face threats over its nuclear program, adding a quick settlement to the standoff was not realistic.
Western countries suspect Iran is developing nuclear bombs under the cover of its nuclear program, while Iran insists the program is peaceful in nature.
The latest round of talks between Iran and six world powers -- the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany -- as well as the European Union was held in Moscow on June 18-19, with all parties expressing a will to continue the dialogue. |
