Prime Minister of the Hamas authority in Gaza Ismail Haneya said Saturday that Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi has promised to open an Egyptian diplomatic mission in the Gaza Strip.

Upon his return from a three-day visit in Cairo, where he held talks with Morsi and senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood, Haneya told reporters that his visit "was positive and fruitful."

"President Morsi promised to delegate a crew to discuss opening an Egyptian consulate in the Gaza Strip," Haneya said, adding that "this is a fruitful outcome of my visit to Egypt."

He said having a diplomatic mission of Egypt in the Gaza Strip "would make the life of the Gaza Strip people easier and end their suffering."

Egypt closed down its diplomatic representation office in the Gaza Strip right after Hamas seized control of the coastal enclave by force in June 2007.

Earlier on Saturday, Haneya told Gaza-based newspaper Falastin that he has invited Morsi and leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood to visit the Gaza Strip.

"I have agreed with President Morsi on a series of immediate decisions related to easing life in the Gaza Strip, mainly the populations' movement at Rafah border crossing and relaxing the restrictions," said Haneya.
