Israeli police arrest youths for attacking Palestinian taxi with fire-bombs
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-08-27 05:38

Israeli police arrested two Jewish teenagers Sunday for their suspected role in an attack on a Palestinian taxi in the West Bank earlier this month, during which six members of a Palestinian family were wounded.

The two, aged 12 and 13, were arrested by police in a religious school located in the settlement of Bat Ayin, not far from where the alleged attack took place, Israeli media reported, quoting police sources.

Evidence found on the scene led to the arrests, the reports said, adding that the suspects' attorney said the youths denied any involvement in the incident.

Two weeks ago, six Palestinians, including two children, were wounded after a taxi caught fire while driving by the al-Arub refugee camp near Bat Ayin.

A police statement released at the time said a sweep of the area revealed a second fire bomb ready to be hurled.

Out of fear that the incident would spark violence in the West Bank, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's envoy Yitzhak Molcho phoned Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad.

Following the incident, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Moshe Ya' alon said the event represented "a terrorist attack," adding that such incidents "run contrary to Jewish morality and values, and constitute first and foremost an educational and moral failure."
