Iran's Navy launched the overhauled super-heavy submarine and indigenous destroyer in the Persian Gulf on Tuesday.

The super-heavy Tareq 901 submarine, repaired by Iranian experts, and Sahand destroyer were successfully launched in Iran's southern port of Bandar Abbas, Press TV reported.

Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said that "Anti-radar systems, wings, pneumatic systems, compressed air systems, pumps and sensors, telecommunication systems, propelling systems, and engine parts (of the submarine) were among the parts repaired in the project all by Iranian engineers," according to the report.

In August, Iran's defense minister said that the country's Defense Ministry plans to produce a variety of fighter jets, missiles, drones, submarines and military vehicles by the end of the Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2012).

In February, Sayyari announced that Iran's Navy added two domestically manufactured light Ghadir-class submarines to its naval fleet.

The submarines, completely designed and produced by Iranian experts, would enhance the Islamic Republic's naval capabilities, Sayyari was quoted as saying by Press TV.

In November, 2011, Iran's Navy Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Gholam Reza Khadem-Bigham announced that three Ghadir-class submarines joined the country's naval fleet.

Khadem-Bigham said that the submarines were capable of launching torpedoes and operating in shallow waters.

The Ghadir submarine was first unveiled in 2007. The 120-ton vessel has shallow depth performance and can conduct prolonged coastal missions.
