Palestinian security forces discovered Sunday a detention facility in the West Bank and said it was prepared by elements affiliated with Islamic Hamas movement.

The "prison" was found under a restaurant in Nablus, said the governor of the city, Gabreen Al-Bakri.

He added that security services opened an investigation to check if preparing the prison was part of a Hamas plan to target the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).

The detention facility had no inmates.

The discovery of the detention facility comes days after the PNA forces rounded up dozens of Hamas activists across the West Bank. Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, considered the detentions as a blow to efforts of national reconciliation.

In 2007, Hamas routed forces loyal to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, ousted his Fatah party and took over the Gaza Strip.
