Visiting Egyptian PM calls Israeli operation in Gaza "aggression"
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-16 17:16

Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Qandil slammed Friday the Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip as an "aggression" and called the international community to act to stop the violence.

Qandil, on a brief visit to the coastal enclave Friday morning, told reporters that Egypt has started and will continue its efforts to end the Israeli "aggression" on the Gaza Strip.

He also called the international community to stop being silent and take action to end the violence.

Qandil arrived in Gaza Friday morning and visited al-Shifa hospital in Gaza city, where some victims of the Israeli air strikes are being treated.

Israeli media reported earlier Friday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to halt airstrikes on the Gaza Strip for three hours during Qandil's visit, on condition that no rockets are fired from Gaza into Israel.

However, Israeli media reported at least 10 rockets fired at Israel's Eshkol region soon after Qandil's entry, with no injuries reported. Meanwhile, Israeli jets are also heard hovering over Gaza.

In the latest Israeli air strike, two Palestinians, including a child, were killed in northern Gaza.
