Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-11-17 15:47

A senior Iranian lawmaker said a parliamentary delegation from Iran will visit the Gaza Strip to express solidarity with the Palestinians over Israeli attacks, Press TV reported on Saturday.

Members of Iran's Majlis (parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission will enter the coastal enclave via the southern Rafah border crossing, Mansour Haqiqatpour was quoted as saying on Friday.

"The Iranian Foreign Ministry is holding consultations with Egyptian authorities on the visit," said the lawmaker, who is also the deputy chairman of the Commission.

He said the delegation will be headed by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, who chairs the Commission, adding that the exact time of the visit is not set yet, according to the report.

On Friday, Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi said that he was ready to visit Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians' resistance, Press TV reported.

Iran would continue supporting the people of Gaza and was also ready to send humanitarian aid to the blockaded coastal enclave, Salehi was quoted as saying.

Salehi also called for immediate action by international organizations to end the Israel's assault on Gaza, urging international organizations to provide all-out political and humanitarian support to Palestinians.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared on Wednesday evening the commencement of "Operation Pillar of Defense" in the Hamas- controlled Gaza Strip, starting with the targeted killing of Hamas military wing chief Ahmed al-Jaabari and a series of fatal airstrikes.

The recent Israeli attacks have also killed at least 25 Palestinians and injured about 250 others.
