Lebanese protesters demand release of leftist militant in France
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2013-01-21 00:12

Protesters who demanded the release of leftist militant Georges Ibrahim Abdallah from jail in France staged a demonstration in front of the French Embassy in Beirut on Sunday and pelted tomatoes and eggs at the embassy, accusing France of violating human rights conventions.

According to the LBCI channel, the protesters stressed that they will continue their "peaceful and democratic" actions against French interests in Lebanon, including banks, companies and institutes until Abdallah's release.

They said their actions will remain peaceful and they will not storm any of the establishments.

For his part, Abdallah who was sentenced for life in prison in 1987 urged in a recording his supporters to maintain their actions until his release, the LBCI said.

A French court granted Abdallah's parole in November on condition that he would be deported but the interior ministry has yet to issue the deportation order.
