The producers partaking in the International Defense Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), which continued into the second day on Monday, are presenting military vehicles, drones and weapons that focus on safeguarding troops rather than attacking the enemy.

The five-day IDEX, one of the world's largest fairs and exhibitions for defense technology and military equipment, hosts about 1,112 companies from 59 countries. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), the hosting country of the event, presented for the first time the Nimr (Tiger), an indigenous military vehicle produced by stated-owned Tawazun Company.

Tawazun said the Nimr has the highest armored protection base for its soldiers and the UAE plans to export it to the world.

Also, the British defense giant BAE Systems, which is the third biggest military defense firm in the world, launched the overhead manned turret, "a new generation low profile turret for light armored vehicles and mine protected vehicles and for their protection," said Johan Steyn, managing director at BAE's land systems department in South Africa.

In order to increase protection of troops in the U.S. main battle tank M1 Abrams 2S, Saudi engineers have developed for U.S. defense giant General Dynamics (GD) the viewing system "Gun Turret Inhibitor," which according to a Saudi colonel present at the GD stand, increases the protection of the tank's officer through real visibility.

The biennial IDEX is also a platform where defense ministers, generals and officers can inspect the latest products in order to consider purchases for their troops. Military delegations from 82 countries are present.
