Ooredoo Qatar, an telecom service provider based in Doha, has announced 22 5G network towers now live to cover the most vital area in Doha, local media reported Thursday.

Ooredoo's new network milestone will cover an area from the west bay, the business hub in Doha, to Hamad International Airport, the Peninsula newspaper said.

"At our world-first 5G launch in May, we promised that 100 5G sites would be ready in three months and we are working hard to fulfill this,'' Ooredoo Chief Executive Officer Waleed Al Sayed said.

Ooredoo's 5G network roll-out would have a widely positive effect on the business sectors in Qatar, he added.

Earlier in May, Ooredoo Qatar announced it was the first operator in the world to launch a 5G network commercially in the 3.5GHz spectrum band.

Ooredoo's 5G NR technology is the first commercially available 5G network in the world and is an important technological breakthrough for the telecommunications industry worldwide.
