Eurozone crisis remains big risk to British recovery: top banker
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-15 21:24

The eurozone crisis is a big risk to recovery of Britain, warned Governor of the Bank of England Mervyn King on Wednesday, saying he doesn't think anyone can be fully prepared in the scenario of a Greek default.

Presenting the Bank of England's latest economic forecasts, the central bank chief said Britain's economy would "zigzag" this year, dipping in and out of growth.

However, saying the country's output may be affected, King said the country's economy is expected to recover "gradually".

The bank's quarterly inflation report predicted inflation rate in Britain would be 1.8 percent by 2014, adjusting up its previous estimate of 1.3 percent.

The report also advised that potential disruptions to supply of oil, for example over Iran situation, would pose risks to its inflation forecast.

Inflation fell sharply to 3.6 percent in January, lower than the 4.2 percent in December last year, according to the latest official figures. The drop brings the inflation to a 14-month low in Britain.

The central bank has set a target of inflation annual rate at 2 percent.
