The number of Internet users continues growing rapidly in Russia, sociologists of the state-run pollster VTsIOM told local media Wednesday.

According to the poll, which was conducted in 46 Russian regions from March 31 to April, 58 percent of respondents confirmed that they use the Internet to a varying extent, compared with 30 percent in 2008.

Meanwhile, the survey showed the number of those who do not use the Internet at all declined to 43 percent from 69 percent four years ago.

The people in Russia who use the Internet everyday also increased from 11 percent to 38 percent.

Also on Wednesday, President Dmitry Medvedev said on his blog that the development of Russian Internet was very dynamic.

"Russia became one of the European leaders for the number of Internet users, primarily thanks to the increase in users in the regions," Medvedev said.

The president also said that more conditions would be created to bring people and authorities closer through the Internet.
