The Brazilian exports to Argentina dropped 27.1 percent after the neighboring country set up a series of restrictions on imported products, Brazil's Development, Industry and Trade Ministry said Wednesday.
According to the ministry, the restrictions which took effect on Feb. 1, have caused concern from Brazil.
"We cannot deny that the measures taken by the Argentine government have affected the Brazilian trade," said the ministry's Executive Secretary Alessandro Teixeira.
He said Brazilian representatives are expected to meet with the Argentine authorities to discuss this matter at the end of this month.
"Argentina has undergone a difficult economic situation. It is legitimate for the country to protect its industry. Our job is to help the Argentine economy instead of taking punitive measures or actions that may strain ties with our neighbors," he said.
On Feb. 1, Argentina issued a series of regulations to review nearly every purchase from abroad. |
