Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-17 15:25

Japan's industrial output increased 1. 3 percent in March on month, up from a preliminary reading of 1.0 percent, the government said Thursday.

Stronger growth in factory production of pharmaceutical and automobile parts items were major contributors to the revised result, according to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry ( METI).

The index of output at factories and mines stood at 95.6 against the base of 100 for 2005.

The index of industrial shipments climbed 0.5 percent to 95.8, beating a 0.1 percent fall in the preliminary report. The expansion rate for industrial inventories remained unchanged at 4. 3 percent.

In February, Japan's industrial production fell 1.2 percent from the previous month, the first drop in three months.
