Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-30 15:58

South Korea's exports of major home appliances jumped 30.2 percent over the past three years due to persisting demand from the United States for locally-made consumer electronics, customs data showed Wednesday.

Outbound shipments of eight major consumer electronics reached 5.61 billion U.S. dollars in 2011, up 30.2% from three years earlier, according to the Korea Customs Service (KCS). The eight items include refrigerator, washing machine, TV, air conditioner, microwave, vacuum cleaner, electric rice cooker and dishwasher.

By item, rice cooker marked the biggest export growth of 59.7% over the past three years. This was followed by dishwasher with 50.7%, refrigerator with 40.6%, air conditioner with 33.7% and TV with 32.1%. Only the microwave shipments reduced 25.9% over the cited period.

By country, the United States was the country's largest export destination of home appliances. Microwave exports to the United States accounted for 62% of the total shipments, while those for refrigerator, washing machine and rice cooker took up 46%, 45% and 36% of the total over the cited period.

The largest export destination for TV was the United Arab Emirates with 23.9% of total exports, while Russia ranked first in terms of the export destination for air conditioner and vacuum cleaner. Iran was the largest importer of locally-made dishwasher.
