Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-06 11:03

Australia's gross domestic product ( GDP) grew 1.3 percent in the three months to March, figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed on Wednesday.

The March quarter growth follows a revised increase of 0.6 percent in the December quarter.

Over the year to March, GDP grew by 4.3 percent, seasonally adjusted in chain volume terms, the ABS said.

The quarterly growth in GDP was more than double the 0.6 percent rise forecast for the March quarter.

Economists had been expecting GDP to grow at an annual rate of 3.3 percent in the first quarter.
