Dutch deficit to drop to 2.9 pct of GDP in 2013: gov't forecaster
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-06-14 21:20

The Netherlands will see its public deficit drop below the European Union's three-percent deficit limit in 2013, the Dutch government's planning arm said Thursday.

According to the Central Planning Bureau (CPS), the Netherlands' public deficit would be at 2.9 percent of the country's annual economic output, sharply down from a previous estimate in March which put the figure at 4.6 percent.

In 2014, however, the public deficit would rise to 3.1 percent before a gradual decrease to 2.6 percent in 2017, the CPS said.

The Dutch economy, meanwhile, would grow by 1.5 percent per year on average between 2013 and 2017, as cutbacks and the lingering eurozone debt crisis take their toll.

"The euro crisis remains the dark cloud over the European and Dutch economy," the CPS said in a statement on its website.

"Should the crisis escalate over the coming years, the growth will be lower than estimated here and the Netherlands will suffer heavy losses,"it said.
