German employment in manufacturing industry increased by 1.7 percent in October, official data showed on Monday.
German Federal Statistical Office said at the end of October, 5.3 million people worked in German manufacturing units with 50 or more employed persons. That was an increase of 1.7 percent or 90,000 persons against October 2011.
According to the Wiesbaden-based office, the increase was driven by the units manufacturing engineering products, which saw an employment rise of 3.5 percent compared to the previous year. In the manufacture of fabricated metal products and the manufacture of motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts, number of employed increased by 2.6 percent.
The number of hours worked in October 2012 increased by 6.6 percent to 706 million from October 2011. The earning in the industry, during the same period, rose by 5.4 percent, reaching 19 billion euros. |
